Our loved one, Thomas "Tom" Johnson, was born in Libby, Montana on January 29, 1979 and passed away February 19, 2005 at the age of 26 in a drowning. We are dedicated to sharing his life and keeping his memories alive while helping those who are grieving.

Tom and Kenny Brisby were best friends from the beginning to the end of their journey. They were also best friends with Jon. The three of them did almost everything together and were like brothers. Tom and Kenny decided to go target practicing on February 19, 2005 in Kapowsin, Washington. Jon was suppose to go but couldn't. On their way back from target practicing they decided to stop at Lake Kapowsin. They saw a duck and decided to shoot it. They shot the duck and it fell in the water somewhat close to shore. Kenny tried to go in the water to retrieve the duck, but told Tom the water is too cold and there is no way he could get it. So they went back to Tom's house where Kenny changed his clothes and returned with a canoe. They were both very excited about going out and getting the duck that they had shot. Upon receiving the canoe they received two life jackets, and were told to make sure they wore them. They both had some fun on a dirt bike and then they loaded up the canoe and off they went. They said they wouldn't be gone long as they were just going to go get the duck. Hours went by, and they never returned. We were getting quit concerned. After several calls to Kenny's cell phone we decided to go see if they were still at the lake. By that time it was dark. Kenny's truck was still there. We drove around the lake stopping and yelling for them. We yelled, and yelled, honked our horn, and got out and listened for any sounds of any kind. We called Tara and Tom's parents. Tara called 911. We met the officer at the lake. He and another officer drove around the lake and saw nothing. At that time they called in the Pierce County search and rescue. They searched all night and during the day for the next 2 days. They said they could not find anything and they would come back and check in a couple of days. Days, hours and a month went by and Kenny was finally found. A couple days later Tom’s body was discovered. We are now left with the unanswered questions of how, why and what happened that fatal day. Tom and Kenny will never be forgotten.
